OpenTable, the US-based supplier of reservation, guest and table management systems for restaurants, officially marked its arrival in the UK recently by flying in critically acclaimed restaurateur Danny Meyer from New York for a launch event at Soho's Groucho Club.
Meyer spoke about his New York restaurants and how OpenTable, which has become a phenomenal success across the Atlantic, has worked for his Union Square Caf.
OpenTable is a computerised reservation system that creates a database of a restaurant's phone and online reservations as well as its customers' details. This enables restaurants to identify regulars, honour special requests and anticipate guest preferences as well as conduct marketing programmes.
It has 3,300 restaurantpartners and has processed 12 million online bookings to date, and with agreements already in place with a number of UK restaurants, it intends to take a similar foothold here.
